University of Wah participated in the 3rd International Conference on Quality Assurance in Academia (ICQAA 2022), organized in the hybrid mode by ILMA University, Karachi on 14-15 January 2022. The Conference centered on the theme, “Contemporary Approaches of Higher Education in the Changing World: A New Quality Assurance System”, with diversified conference tracks. Prof Dr Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor UW, shared his views on the Conference theme as a Guest Speaker. Brig. Khalid Mahmood Anwar, UW Director QA&E and Ms. Nazish Nawaz, Assistant Director QA&E presented their papers titled “International University Rankings” and “Adoption of Effective Engagement Strategies to enhance Readiness of Students and Quality of Online Education” respectively. World renowned seasoned and professional experts from industry and academia from 18 countries participated and shared their research work and experiences.

University of Wah and Consak Canada jointly organized a two day online training on “Lean Six Sigma (Yellow Belt)” on 8-9 January 2022. Dr. Nasir Mehmood, Assistant Professor Management Sciences and Prof Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmad Director ORIC hosted the event on behalf of the Department of Management Sciences and Directorate of ORIC UW. Mr. Asad Kazim Founder and President of Consak Canada was the chief trainer. Mr. Asad is a certified PMI Risk Management Professional and Project Management Professional Trainer. Mr. Asad Kazim delivered 3 hours training session through Zoom on 8th and 9th January 2022. The event was attended by the diverse and highly qualified participants from different national and international industrial sectors such as transportation, airline, education, logistics, services, media etc. The participants from Pakistan, Canada, UK, and USA made the event a great success. The event ended with a note of thanks to all the participants and especially to the chief trainer by Prof. Zulfiqar Ahmad. The participants appreciated the trainer and organizers and have shown their commitment to participate in future events as well.

Mashal Degree College (MDC) celebrated and acknowledged the outstanding performance of its students in American Mathematics Olympiad 2021 (AMO) in an Award Distribution Ceremony on 07 January, 2022. AMO is an International Mathematics Competition, jointly organized by Singapore International Math Contests Centre (SIMCC) and Southern Illinois University (SIU). Overall 24 countries from across the world participated in AMO. 43 students from Pakistan took part in this contest. Out of these, eight were from Wah Cantt, nine from Islamabad and the rest were from Karachi. Out of the five contestants from MDC, four bagged bronze medals and certificates. Prof. Dr. Jameel-Un Nabi, Vice Chancellor, UW was the Chief Guest of the Ceremony. He appreciated both the students and the faculty members for displaying professional commitment and dedication. He distributed awards and also announced a cash prize of Rs. 5000/- for each winner. In his address, the VC stressed on equipping students, both in co/extra-curricular activities so as to polish their latent capabilities. He further stressed on active participation of students in national and international level competitions. The Ceremony ended with a note of thanks.

A memorandum of Agreement between University of Wah (UW), International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and COMSATS, Islamabad (CUI) was signed at the new campus of IIUI on Tuesday 28 Dec 2021 under which it has been agreed that a consortium shall be made to establish a Business Incubation Centre (BIC) at UW.

Directorate of ORIC-UW has submitted for a grant of Rs 23 Million to HEC for the establishment of BIC in collaboration with IIUI and CUI at UW.

The IIUI will be providing a lead consultancy as part of the consortium for the development and capacity building of BIC at UW, setting up an incubation center with the startup of 6 to 10 companies and incubation of several research related commercial products.

In this consortium, CUI under this agreement shall provide support to UW for development of strategic and sustainability plan. CUI shall also support for communications and marketing and Industry / startup connect for BIC at UW.

In the signing ceremony at IIUI’s new campus, Prof. Dr. Jameel un Nabi, Vice Chancellor UW, Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, President IIUI and Dr. Sajid Madni, Registrar CUI signed the agreement. The event was also participated by Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmad, Director ORIC/BIC UW, Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President Research & Enterprise and Engr. Muhammad Ahsen Mirza, Director BIC-IIUI.

All three parties agreed to cooperate for establishing of BIC at UW sharing resources, training, capacity building and dissemination of knowledge and information. It has also been agreed to establish a collaborative entrepreneurship club for all three institutes for conducting Entrepreneurial Workshops, mentorship sessions, business plan competitions/ hackathons as well as startup challenge/ showcasing and investor connect events.

Vice Chancellor-UW said that there are a lot of opportunities that can be utilized through joint ventures between all universities. He hailed IIUI for its services to the society. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed also gave a detailed briefing on the occasion about university’s vision, recent strategic plan and faculties of the universities. Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmad highlighted the efforts and usefulness of forming the consortium and foresightedness of incubating the commercial products. Earlier, Engr. Muhammad Ahsen Mirza, Director BIC-IIUI apprised of the objectives and scope of the consortium.

Department of Management Sciences, University of Wah organized Alumni Reunion on December 24, 2021 at Ordnance Club, Wah Cantt. The event was arranged for fostering long term relationship with UW alumni of the Department of Management Sciences. The occasion provided a wonderful opportunity for everyone to interact and paved way for affording internships to UW students in various organizations, where UW Alumni are currently working.

Department of Management Sciences and UW ORIC/Placement Cell, in collaboration with Cakes and Bakes, Lahore, an ISO Certified Bakery with branches in the country and Middle East, organized a Recruitment Drive on 24 December, 2021. Mr. Salman Saeed Qureshi, Group Senior General Manager, Human Resource Division of Cakes and Bakes along with his team visited UW. He emphasized on industry-academia linkages for mutual benefit and expressed their keen desire of conducting such drives and visits to UW in future as well. Cakes and Bakes representatives conducted interviews of UW Alumni and final year students. In the end, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences delivered a note of thanks to the guests for this initiative.

Department of Management Sciences organized a one-day visit for the students of BBA and BSAF Degree Programs to Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited, Islamabad on 23 December, 2021. The objective of the visit was to create awareness and enhance financial literacy of students for their future contributive efforts towards a prosperous and growing Pakistan. Ms. Noshaba Zulfiqar, Focal Person from the Department, held a meeting with Advisor, Askari Securities Limited, Mr. Abdus Samad Khan and thanked him for organizing training and awareness session in collaboration with PSX and Askari Securities Limited, one of the fastest developing investment houses in Pakistan's Capital market. Mr Muhammad Saqib, Assistant Manager Operations, PSX briefed the students about the latest developments in PSX, trading tools and strategies available to the investors in the financial market. Mr Shabbir Elahi, Fund Manager-Askari Securities Limited, elaborated on the role of Security and Exchange Commission Pakistan (SECP) as a regulatory authority for managing the operations of PSX. The trip proved to be a great opportunity for the students to learn about the work of PSX, its significant functions and operations.

A “Christmas Drive” under the umbrella of “Management Fiesta Week-2021” was conducted by Department of Management Sciences on 22 December, 2021. The drive included fund raising campaign by the students for purchasing gifts for Christian employees and their children. Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences greeted the UW Christian community on the Christmas eve and distributed presents amongst them. The activity received positive feedback and the efforts of the organizing committee were lauded by all.

The Students of BBA-7th Semester, Department of Management Sciences organized an “Entrepreneurial Extravaganza” in the University Campus on 21st and 22nd December, 2021, as part of a Project assigned to them. The purpose of this event was to develop entrepreneurial skills in students by providing them a platform for practical learning of the subject matter. The students arranged stalls for sale of various items, eatables and other products. Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Dean-Faculty of Management Sciences along with the faculty members visited the venue and appreciated the efforts of the students. The Extravaganza was enthusiastically attended and the participants stressed on organizing such activities for the students to nurture their entrepreneurial abilities.

University of Wah in collaboration with Read Pakistan organized Launching Ceremony of “50 Books A Year” (BAY) Competition on 21 December, 2021. Students were briefed regarding different stages of the competition and a list of books for the first stage of competition was shared with them. Read Pakistan Team also addressed queries of the students and the ceremony ended with the capturing of a group photo.
